Nuneaton arts trail

I am delighted and very proud to be involved with the Warwickshire arts week. I was asked to plan and design an arts trail competition to coincide with the very first Arts Trail for Nuneaton town centre. The aim is to get people interested in and involved with art on show as something for themselves. (Get your own art passport at the bottom of this page.)

The Art Alert committee that is organising this is made up of some dynamic and generous people including working artists and other experienced and talented folk. They have some great ideas and bags of enthusiasm. Their objective is to promote the visual arts and crafts in the area. They are a non profit organisation but they generate lots of value.

The Art Trail will consist of at least 9 showcase/exhibition venues, drop-in workshops and demonstrations. A fabulously talented selection of local artist, individual and groups, schools and the colleges will be exhibiting.

We decided that art is not about competition so there will be no judging.

There will be one of my photographs and verses at each of the Arts Trail venues. There are four limited edition badges designed by artists taking part in the Art Trail. To get one you will need to find at least 5 of my photos and fill in the titles on the art passport. The badges can be collected on the day from the venues.

If you fill in the art passport with your thoughts in words, verse or pictures, I will publish your work on this site. I will send a copy of one of my photo books as a random gift to three of the entries as a thank you for entering.

The Arts Trail competition is only one of the things going on but it will be run over two weekends because there is so much that one weekend is just not enough time to see everything.

The arts trail weekends will be 9th/10th and 16th/17th July 2010.

There will be a prize draw in Niuneaton town center on Saturday 31st July for everyone who completes the Arts Trail and returns their art passport either to one of the venues during the trail weekends or to the town hall by 30th July. Prizes have been kindly donated by Waterstones, The Co-op and Thorntons.

What to do now

Download, print out and fold the arts passport. It will involve combining a little right and left brain activity, but it is worth the effort.

Printing Tip: Most printers have a non-printable margin so a generous left and right margin has been left blank on this document. On most computers this file will open in Adobe reader when you download it. For best results when printing:
  • Set the "page scaling" option to "none" in the Adobe print dialogue.
  • The "auto rotate and center" option should be ticked
  • The "choose paper source by PDF page size" option should be unticked.
  • Ensure your printer's paper size is set to A4
